I am always reminded of how important it is for me to be around other Filipinos when I come home and hear a random conversation in Tagalog. Every time I come home, I'm hit by an unexpected familiarity and I'm forced to recognize that I haven't heard Tagalog in months or weeks, depending on the last time I was home. It's just music to my ears -a welcome reminder of who I am and where I come from.
